Who can be a Muse?

Any woman over 18 years of age is eligible for membership in the Krewe of Muses. In order to become a riding member in the Krewe of Muses, one must first become a non-riding member. To become a non-riding member, please send $150 made payable to Goddesses, Inc., together with the application for membership. Non-riding membership entitles the member to all benefits provided to riding members of the krewe except those directly associated with the parade. That is, non-riding members are invited to all krewe events and pay the same charges for those events as members pay. Non-riding members receive the newsletter and other regular communications and are invited to attend krewe meetings.

Will I get to ride in the next parade?

Muses currently maintains a waiting list to ride in the parade, as all riding positions are currently taken. We do not know how many non-riding members will be able to ride in the upcoming parade until the summer - after the deadline for existing riding members to pay their dues. Our waiting list to ride has continued to grow significantly so you should expect to wait several years to ride. Positions for riding membership will only become available as riding members resign their riding membership. At this time the Krewe of Muses is not expected to increase the number of riding members.

As long as you keep your non-riding membership active and pay your dues on time, you will maintain your position on the list as well as be able to attend Muse events. If a riding position becomes available, you will receive an invitation. If you receive an invitation for the upcoming parade and are not able to ride that year you will maintain your position at the top of the list and be asked again as another position opens.

What are the dues?

The dues for non-riding membership is $150. The $150 paid for non-riding membership applies as a credit toward the riding dues if you have paid your non-riding dues for the year and a riding membership becomes available. We do accept Visa, Master Card and American Express.

Membership runs from parade date to parade date. If you join in the middle of the year, you will have to pay another $150 at the beginning of the next riding year. Dues are not prorated. However, the sooner you join, the higher you will be on the waiting list to ride.
